The 'prefix' letter in the serial number will get you in a range of possible years your receiver was made. By contacting Remington, you can learn exactly when your receiver was made if they still have the records for your serial number. The barrel code if present will tell you when your barrel was made, but barrels get changed from gun to gun. Dec 11, 2011 Model 1100 serial numbers (on the receiver) started with the number 1001. All but the early guns also have a prefix letter. All Model 1100 Remington shotguns were serial numbered in blocks of numbers. Each serial number has a suffix and the following indicates the meaning: V = 12ga. Standard 2' frame/receiver. Centerfire Rifle History. This is a discussion on serial number within the Remington Shotgun Forum forums, part of the Shotgun Forums by Model category; Ive found a 12 gauge 1100 on Gun Broker that Im I interested in the seller claims its a new 1975 gun HES going.
- Modern Remington barrels are stamped with a Date/Code, which denotes when it was made. Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington shotgun, on the left side, just forward of the receiver. The first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture.

Occasionally the characters are weak or unevenly applied. A hand stamp is used and can be difficult to read. There are also symbols on the right side of the barrel. The R.E.P. proof mark is usually surrounded by an oval. The magnaflux stamp is most often a symbol inside of a triangle and usually appears to the left of the proof mark, but also may appear to the right or below it. The gallery stamp is to the right of these and may be either one or two symbols or letters. The gallery stamp(s) signify function and accuracy testing. When measuring barrel lengths, go from the gas port on the operating side of the receiver to the muzzle.
